International Conference on Changing Information Marketplace

SNDT Women's University will organise International Conference on Changing Information Marketplace at Mumbai on 30th and 31st January 2014. The details are given below

INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON
CHANGING INFORMATION MARKETPLACE
30th and 31st January 2014
Organized by  SNDT University, Mumbai

INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON
CHANGING INFORMATION MARKETPLACE
30th and 31st January 2014
Introduction

Media transformation and ICTs have brought in unprecedented changes in the way the authors produce their work, the way readers and users of information, receive and use information and also in the way information is published and marketed. This has considerably changed the role of libraries as information providers.
These changes have also given rise to many new players like database vendors, aggregators, consortia administrators with different roles to play in the information marketplace. Thousands of information providers have jumped into the scholarly marketplace with a variety of electronic products: CDs, DVDs, online databases, full text resources, multi-media resources. Many learned societies, scientific publishers, university libraries, full-text publishers, vendor/aggregators, as well as new entrants to the publishing arena, now offer versions of either print-originating or completely electronic information.  Institutional repositories are flourishing with open source revolution.
On the one hand, this has compelled librarians to think about pricing strategies and work on content negotiations and distribution, while on the other hand librarians also bear the commitment to the value of libraries as social institutions. The journey of libraries from analog to hybrid to digital has posed both challenges and opportunities for the library professionals. We need to update ourselves and discuss different issues related to these changes and capitalize on our relationship with the existing customers as well as other players in the information marketplace. This will provide a base for developing future potential of libraries.
