New facility is part of the Community Development Programme
A new initiative of the Guntur Municipal Corporation of launching e-library on the premises of State Regional Library is helping to bridge the digital divide.
The project is part of the Community Development Programme, to provide equal opportunities for people in realising their goals. The  e-learning library has already benefited students preparing for various competitive examinations. Students are able to browse for any information on the Internet and take printed copies of the information downloaded from the internet.
In the absence of such facilities at public libraries, students and unemployed youth are being forced to depend on private internet cafes, some of them are lodged in dingy rooms and unhygienic surroundings. The students would also have to pay higher charges at internet centres. The GMC, which has already started the project on the premises of the State Regional Library, opposite
A.C College, is now setting up another facility at the District Central Library in Arundelpet. The GMC has provided 10 desk top computer systems with battery back-up system, head phones, printers, and the furniture- at a cost of Rs 22.46 lakh.
